    WHP stands for Wheel Horsepower, which is derived from testing the power output at the wheels using a dynamometer. Drive train efficiency reductions bring WHP levels below the engine's capability. The basic formula is: To compute WHP, subtract the drivetrain loss percent value from BHP and multiply it by BHP. A vehicle with 400 BHP and 15% drivetrain loss will have 340 HP WHP.

    What is the difference between WHP and HP?

    The power delivered to vehicle wheels uses the term WHP, while measurements conducted at the engine crankshaft use the terms HP or BHP. WHP maintains a naturally lower position because drivetrain losses occur. The degree of power loss differs among vehicles, where RWD loses ~15% power and FWD loses ~10%, and AWD suffers approximately 20% loss.

    The measurement of WHP occurs directly through the use of a chassis dynamometer (dyno).
